Why We Don’t Accept Returns for Sizing Issues or “Change of Heart”. And Why We Hope You’ll Understand.

At Happy Ohioan, our mission is to bring you cozy, conversation-starting apparel that celebrates Ohio pride. Whether you're repping the Buckeye State from Columbus or from across the country. We love what we do, and we put our whole hearts into designing and delivering fun, meaningful gear for our fellow Ohioans and fans of the state.

Because we’re a small business that uses print-on-demand (POD) production, we’ve had to make a tough, but necessary decision when it comes to returns and exchanges:
We’re unable to accept returns or exchanges for things like ordering the wrong size, having a change of heart, or wanting something different once your order arrives.

We know that might sound frustrating, especially if you're used to big-box stores with massive warehouses and lenient return policies. But here's a little behind-the-scenes look at why we have this policy in place, and how it helps us keep Happy Ohioan running smoothly.

We Don’t Keep Inventory, Everything Is Made Just for You

When you place an order with us, your item isn’t pulled from a shelf, it’s made to order, specifically for you. Once you check out, your shirt, hat, or tote bag goes into production with our fulfillment partner. That means it’s printed, packed, and shipped just for your order.

So, unlike large retailers, we can’t resell returned items. That shirt in the wrong size? It was made just for you, which means if you send it back, it doesn’t go back into stock. It’s simply a loss. For a small, family-run business like ours, that adds up quickly.

We’re a Small Business, Not a Chain Store

Happy Ohioan is proudly run by a husband-and-wife team based right here in Ohio. We’re not backed by a big corporation, and we don’t have a warehouse full of employees or inventory.

Because we rely on print-on-demand to keep costs manageable and designs fresh, our return policy helps us stay sustainable. If we offered returns for size swaps or buyer’s remorse, we’d have to significantly raise our prices to cover those costs, and that’s not something we want to do.

How You Can Make Sure You Get the Right Fit

We totally get it that ordering online can be tricky, especially when it comes to fit. That’s why we’ve taken extra care to include:

  • Detailed sizing charts for every apparel item

  • Fit notes like whether a shirt runs true to size, fits snug, or has extra stretch

  • Real-life photos of our apparel so you can see how it looks off the screen (we're still working on getting these for each item)

We always recommend measuring your favorite shirt at home and comparing it to the size chart. And if you’re ever unsure about which size to get, feel free to shoot us a message as we’re more than happy to help!

We Want You to Be Happy And Proud to Shop Small

We genuinely want every customer to love what they get from us. That’s why we put so much thought into our designs, quality materials (hello, soft Bella+Canvas tees!), and transparency throughout the ordering process.

While we can’t offer returns or exchanges for the reasons mentioned above, we do stand behind the quality of our products. If your item arrives damaged or there’s a mistake with your order, we’ll absolutely make it right.
